Kahului Busted Mugshots
Kahului is the largest of the three Census-designated places on the Maui map. It held 28,219 people in 2020. Size does not give it its own force. Hawaii has no incorporated cities in the mainland sense, so the Maui Police Department covers the whole county. The place label and population figure come from the Census TIGERweb table.
A Kahului arrest may be booked at MPD's central Receiving Desk, inside the Wailuku Police Station on 55 Mahalani Street. That central setup explains a lot. Searching for Kahului busted mugshots never lands on a Kahului booking page. MPD's own county pages and its Communications Section describe the countywide agency and the booking function it runs. Where intake happens says nothing about where the arrest took place.
The city map below just documents the population source. It is a geographic reference, not a booking photo or a gallery.
Kahului's size makes it a popular search term. It does not change the official record path or create a daily photo feed of its own.
Where Kahului Busted Mugshots Appear
There is no official Kahului arrest blotter, city roster, or same-day mugshot feed. Official channels come first, and each answers a different question. A news post might show a person police want to identify. Even so, MPD does not publish every Kahului booking photograph.
| Channel | Photo or record status | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| MPD News & Events | Official countywide notices and selected public-assistance posts. Images are case-specific. | Search the dated feed for Kahului incidents. |
| Wailuku Receiving Desk | Official central booking and holding contact. No public results table located. | Use for a current routing question, not a gallery. |
| MPD Records / UIPA portal | Official request path for a specific report, booking record, or photo, subject to exemptions. | Give the date, place, name, and report or booking number. |
| SAVIN / VINELink | Official DCR custody status and alerts. No routine photo field promised. | Use after a person enters state custody. |
| eCourt Kōkua | Official court case and disposition route after booking. | Search by case ID, arrest number, OTN, SID, filing date, or checked name. |
| Local news and unofficial guides | Selected context; no complete Kahului roster. Third-party facility pages are not live MPD records. | Use as a lead, then verify with the originating agency. |
The countywide MPD Communications Section is where the central booking statement comes from. So a search result wearing a Kahului label is not an official city feed, no matter how it looks.
Busted in Kahului: Find a Booking
Name the question before you start a Kahului lookup. Current custody, a police booking record, a court outcome, and a state custody alert are four different searches. The Maui booking and mugshot hub lays out the full countywide path. The local steps below keep the place label honest.
- Write down the incident date, Kahului location, person's name, and any report, booking, or case number.
- Check the official MPD News & Events feed for a public-assistance post or later update.
- Ask MPD Records whether the identified event has a responsive report, booking record, or releasable photograph. No Kahului online roster was located.
- Use Hawaii SAVIN or VINELink if the question is current state custody or a release notification, not a police-cellblock hold.
- Use eCourt Kōkua for the public case and disposition. A release from custody does not by itself end the court case.
If an unofficial page shows a photo, check its date and source against MPD, the court, or DLR before trusting it. Never copy it, and never claim the person is still held without an official status check.
Kahului MPD Records
Kahului has no police records office of its own. Report and booking-record requests go to the central MPD Records Section or the County UIPA portal. MPD Records sits at 55 Mahalani Street in Wailuku, Hawaii 96793. Phone is 808-244-6355, fax 808-244-6418. Published hours run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Fridays are closed until further notice.

Note: Most reports are described as available within ten business days, though review and redaction can affect timing.
A request should name a single event. Include the full name and the approximate arrest or booking date. Add the Kahului location, any report or booking number, and the exact record you want. The County police-report process says a government photo ID, email, and phone number may be required. The first 25 pages carry no charge under that process, with possible fees for larger requests. Ask whether a photograph exists and whether UIPA allows its release, rather than assuming a report includes an image.
Kahului Crime Coverage
Maui Now, The Maui News, and Hawaii News Now cover the whole county by incident and place. A story might touch a Kahului arrest, a court date, or a call for public help. The Maui County crime-news page maps the wider outlet list. That list includes KHON2, KITV, Honolulu Star-Advertiser, and MauiTime.
Editorial choice drives the news cadence. A story can cite MPD or a court yet skip the booking photo. Some use a scene image instead. Others name someone who was later released. Search by Kahului and date, then follow the agency cited. The major mugshot aggregators have no verified local section. Jail Exchange pages are independent MCCC guides, not Kahului records.
Why Kahului Has No City Roster
Kahului is a population center, not a separate police jurisdiction. That routing fact is the key local angle. MPD serves the whole county. So a Kahului arrest can enter the same Wailuku booking process used by every other Maui community. A station label or news mention may say where something happened. The booking record itself lives in the county police system.
The second angle is the gap between counts and names. Maui County publishes aggregate Receiving Desk measures. Think booking numbers used and adult or juvenile holds. No Kahului name list comes out of that report. You cannot turn those totals into a set of Kahului busted mugshots. Juvenile counts never unlock juvenile identities either.
Kahului Busted Request Detail
Keep a Kahului records request tight. That helps MPD actually find the file. Give the full name if you have it. Add the incident date or a narrow window, the location, the arresting agency, and any report or booking number. Say exactly what you want: the police report, the booking record, the booking photograph, release information, or the governing policy. Ask for electronic delivery when it is offered.
Expect some paperwork on your end. The County process may require a government photo ID, an email address, and a phone number. The first 25 pages are free in the ordinary report flow. Larger requests can carry per-page, CD-R, search, or segregation fees. Most reports come back inside ten business days. Privacy review or an open investigation can slow that down.
For a photograph, ask MPD first whether an image from the named event even exists. Existence, retention, and release are three separate questions. A photo can be withheld or redacted, just as a report can hold protected witness, juvenile, medical, or third-party material. A denial should cite the legal basis where one is required. Start at the County request portal, not any unofficial Kahului page.
Kahului Records After Release
Custody searches and booking records live on different clocks. Someone arrested in Kahului can clear the police stage before any DCR entry shows up. They may then vanish from a custody view while MPD still holds the report and the court still holds the case. That gap is normal system separation. It does not mean the record never existed.
Follow the trail by stage. eCourt Kōkua covers a public court case and its eventual disposition. SAVIN or VINELink tracks state custody and sends release alerts. Federal or immigration questions belong to BOP or ICE, each under its own rules. Date every result, and treat it as answering only for the custody stage it covers.
One more caution: "released" is not the same as "cleared." A charge can stay open, be refiled, or resolve later in court. A lawfully released booking photo is simply a booking photo, an administrative snapshot from the moment of arrest.
Kahului Booking to State Custody
Custody that outlasts MPD intake usually points to Maui Community Correctional Center. MCCC sits at 600 Waiale Drive in Wailuku, Hawaii 96793, phone 808-243-5101, and it is run by the Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Its population differs from the police Receiving Desk. Hawaii SAVIN and VINELink can show state-custody status and send notifications, but neither replaces the MPD booking record or guarantees a photo.
These handoffs leave gaps. Someone released before transfer may never surface in DCR custody data, while someone transferred appears there even as the original Kahului arrest record stays with MPD and the court. A case can also keep moving after release. No single search answers every question about who got busted in Kahului.
